when i was a child back in 1945 & 46 my brother and i used to march in the parades, the fire dept furnished us t shirts to wear, i came across a photo of us a short while ago. i also remember the firemans bazzars that used to be held on the fire house grounds, my family left sayville in early 1947 and moved upstate near rochester. i now live in texas, i have been here since 1963, i still have fond memories of sayville and the fire dept. thank you for maintaing this great site. david jansch, big spring texas

This website brings back so many memories of my childhood and my teenage years. SFD was so much a part of my life with my Dad and Uncles being so involved. Even though I was a short time member as a firefighter I loved every minute of it. it was family, and I know it still is!!! Thanks!!!

Just wanted to let you guys know I'm here in my dad's (Charlie Oelkers) hospital room showing him the website today. He's alert and interested! As soon as he gets this darn ventilator out of his mouth I can send emails on his behalf. I'm sure you miss hearing about how much better it was back when....
Give it up for the old timer ;)
