Sayville Fire Department Called upon for Animal Ice Rescue
By Ex-Chief Thomas Pantano
January 25, 2025
Four days after drilling on Ice Rescue techniques, the Sayville Fire Department was called into action. The Sayville Fire Department responded to an ice rescue call on the Great South Bay to save a goose trapped on the ice. Our trained Ice Rescue Team acted quickly and carefully to bring the goose to safety, ensuring it was unharmed and returned safely to shore. This call is a reminder of the dangers icy waters pose not just for animals but for people as well. No ice is safe ice. Even when it looks solid, ice can be unpredictable and dangerous. 💡 Safety Reminders: • Avoid walking on frozen bodies of water. • Keep pets away from icy surfaces, as they can easily fall through. • If you see someone or an animal in distress on the ice, call 911 and leave the rescue to trained professionals. We’re proud to serve our community and protect all its residents feathered or otherwise! Stay safe, Sayville! Are you ready to make a difference in your community? Join our team! The Sayville Fire Department is actively recruiting new members. For an application, visit sayvillefd.org. #WeAreSayville #VolunteerFirefighters #IceRescue #CommunityFirst #SayvilleFD #StaySafe
